Willhaben

The name reads as German for “want to have”. Willhaben was set up in Vienna in 2006 by Styria Media Group and Schibsted. Schibsted's half later passed to Adevinta, and in 2025 the investor Sprints Capital took over that stake, so today Styria and Sprints Capital each hold roughly half of the company.

There is no English edition: willhaben has chosen German as its base language, and the website, help centre and apps all use it. Prices are in euros and the ads come from sellers in Austria.

Type your search in English and BuyHub runs it on the willhaben Marktplatz in German, then translates the titles. You can set a price range, choose private or commercial sellers, or keep only ads that offer PayLivery, and sort by newest, price or distance.

PayLivery, willhaben's protected payment with delivery, only works for sales inside Austria, and the buyer pays the postage plus a protection fee. A radar then watches willhaben for new ads at all hours, whether or not your devices are on.

Online since 2006, Willhaben is one of the most visited websites in Austria and a household name for classified ads there. Alongside cars, property and jobs, it runs the Marktplatz, the buy-and-sell section for electronics, home and furniture, fashion, games and collectibles. For private individuals, publishing an ad costs nothing and sales carry no commission. Buyers who want extra security can pay through PayLivery, which only releases the money to the seller once the parcel has arrived, though many deals are still closed face to face.

Fresh stock appears daily, much of it from house clearances and inheritances: antiques, collectible toys, vintage furniture and objects, rare books and sports memorabilia. Listings on Willhaben Marktplatz are in German and priced in euros. Many sellers prefer handing items over in person, so buyers in other countries should ask first whether shipping is possible.
