Trade Me is one of the most widely used buying and selling sites in New Zealand. Sam Morgan founded it in 1999 as an auction website, and it withstood eBay’s arrival in the country. Today it combines bidding with fixed-price “Buy Now” listings and also has sections for vehicles, property and jobs. Private sellers trade alongside professional dealers, many of whom have been on the platform for years.
For collectors, the antiques and collectables category covers stamps, coins, toys, sports cards and memorabilia, with a distinctly local flavour: Kiwiana (classic items of New Zealand popular culture), rugby and cricket souvenirs and colonial-era antiques. Listings are in English and prices in New Zealand dollars. Bidding or buying requires living in New Zealand or Australia, save for exceptions approved by Trade Me; from other countries, listings can be browsed but not bought directly.
