Kleinanzeigen in English

Kleinanzeige is the ordinary German word for a classified ad, built from klein (small) and Anzeige (advertisement). Kleinanzeigen is its plural, so the name literally means classified ads. Because it is a common noun, the word appears on plenty of German websites, but kleinanzeigen.de is the marketplace most people have in mind when they type it.

The site took that plain name on 16 May 2023. Until then it was eBay Kleinanzeigen, a brand the new owner, Adevinta, could only keep for a limited time after buying it from eBay. Accounts, ads and messages carried over, and the old ebay-kleinanzeigen.de address forwards to the new one. A search for eBay Kleinanzeigen leads to the same marketplace, which simply no longer belongs to eBay.

There is no English version of Kleinanzeigen: kleinanzeigen.de has no language switcher, and the app lists German as its only language. Writing to a seller requires an account, which asks for an email address and a phone number confirmed with a code sent by SMS.

BuyHub handles the language for the search itself. Type “record player” or “Lego Technic” in English and it searches Kleinanzeigen in German, then shows the titles translated and the euro prices in your own currency. You can narrow the results by price, condition, private or commercial seller, or ads that offer shipping, and sort them by newest or by price. Turn the search into a radar and BuyHub keeps watching Kleinanzeigen around the clock, without your phone or computer having to stay on.

Kleinanzeigen ranks among the biggest classifieds sites in Germany. It started in 2009 as eBay Kleinanzeigen and took its current name after Adevinta bought it in 2021. Listings are sorted by region, making it easy to browse what is nearby or look in any other German city. Private sellers can use the basics at no cost, prices are negotiated by message, and the optional “Sicher bezahlen” service holds the payment until the parcel arrives and adds buyer protection.

For collectors, attic clear-outs and slimmed-down collections keep the site well supplied with retro games, trading cards, old toys, electronics, books, antiques and memorabilia. Listings are in German and prices in euros. Many sellers post anywhere in Germany; shipping abroad is up to each seller, so it pays to ask before a deal is agreed.
