Auction site · huuto.net

Huuto.net today: more buy-now than auctions

Huuto.net began as a private project by Lari Lohikoski in Helsinki in January 1999 and has changed hands several times since: the auction house Bukowskis, Sonera Plaza, Sanoma's Ilta-Sanomat and, since October 2019, ePrice Oy. Auctions gave the site its name, but by November 2023 fewer than one in ten of its roughly 1.9 million listings were auctions. The rest were fixed-price offers, and sellers can accept or turn down a lower offer from a buyer.

Anyone can browse Huuto.net without an account; bidding, buying or making an offer requires one, and the site only works in Finnish.

Following Huuto.net auctions with BuyHub

BuyHub searches Huuto.net in English and lets you pick auctions or buy-now listings, private or business sellers, condition and price, or match your words in titles only. Sort by ending soon, most bids, newest or price. To keep track of a lot, set an alarm on it from the results or by pasting its huuto.net link, and BuyHub warns you before the auction ends. A radar on your search reports new listings at any hour, even with your devices off.

03About Huuto.net

Huuto.net has been running in Finland since 1999, which makes it one of the longest-standing online auction sites in Europe; its name comes from huutokauppa, the Finnish word for auction. Private sellers and businesses post timed auctions as well as fixed-price items under Osta heti (“buy now”). When Huuto Turva is used, the payment is held until the deal is completed; otherwise buyer and seller receive each other's contact details and agree on payment and delivery themselves.

Auctions let demand set the price, and a listing that draws few bidders can close below what the item would fetch elsewhere. Retro games, card lots, old books, vintage electronics and period furniture turn up regularly, many of them coming out of house clearances and private collections. Listings are written in Finnish and most sellers are based in Finland, so it is sensible to ask about shipping abroad before placing a bid.
